Knee Adventures IV

I am being good and doing my physiotherapy exercises. Riding the bike is easier each day. I have also been walking around without the brace in places I will not be bumped or pushed.

On Friday I drove the car :) I know that sounds like a silly little thing, but it is the first time in a month. The problem is not the driving but the getting in and out of the car.

MOHA Peewee White Championship and Awards

Andrew's hockey team won the regular season and they received their trophies tonight. They did not make it to the final game however. They had fun at the game and even more on the ice receiving their hardware.

Knee adventures III

I am writing this using Windows Live Writer. Let's see if it works.

Today was the first physiotherapy appointment. She seems to think I should have come much earlier. I have exercises to do, very simple exercises. I was also told to stop using the crutches and start using the knee more. My concern is that it will give out again, but she assures me it will not and that I just need to build up the muscles.

Then this afternoon I went to my massage therapist. She also said I should have come in much earlier. Using the crutches has caused lower back pain and neck and shoulder pain. I am probably using the crutches wrong, but it does not matter any more since I was told to stop using them.

I have a cane now for reassurance more than anything else. I am also supposed to try walking without the brace more to build up the muscles more.

My Knee Adventure II

March 19, I was told by the orthopaedic surgeon that I can put weight on the knee now. Still need to use the crutches, but I don't need to sleep in the knee brace any more. That is wonderful. He said I should also stay home from work for at least 3 more weeks. Since I can and am doing most of my work from home, that is not a big deal.

I start physio therapy March 25th. I am not really looking forward to that :(

My Knee Adventure

Day 1
February 23 2008

While walking around to the end of the ice at Ricoh Centre just after Andrew's hockey game had started, I stepped over an obsticle less than 6" high. I fell and was sitting on the floor. I thought my ankle had given out. When I stood up my left knee would not hold any weight, and bent sideways. Grossed me out. Albert took me to Oakville Hospital where we waited quite a while.

They took X-rays which showed nothing since ligaments don't show in X-rays.

After 7 hours we were on our way home with only instructions to come back to the fracture clinic four days hence, on Wednesday.

Day 5
Wednesday February 27

Fracture Clinic at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Appointment for 9:15 am. Left at about 2 pm. It was very busy.

I was told it probably is only a grade II sprain ( I personally think it is grade III, but I never went to medical school ) which means knee brace, non weight bearing, come back in three weeks.
